Abstract
The photon tunnelling effect in a frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) structure with metamaterials is investigated. The total transmission conditions for photon tunnelling through barriers composed of one pair and many pairs are derived. Numerical results confirm those tunnelling conditions. The influence of material loss on the transmission property of photons is also discussed.
