Time Delay Estimation for USBL Using SVMD and Generalized Quadratic Cross Correlation

Abstract

Conventional generalized cross-correlation (GCC) methods often yield poor time delay estimates in USBL positioning, especially under low SNR conditions. To address this issue, this paper presents a time delay estimation framework based on SVMD and generalized quadratic cross-correlation (GQCC). The received signal is preprocessed via SVMD-based decomposition, component selection, and reconstruction to enhance the effective signal content. Time delay is then obtained using a GQCC estimator equipped with an improved weighting function. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach consistently outperforms both GCC and traditional GQCC, leading to notably improved USBL positioning accuracy.
