Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate a high-performance surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) sensor based on liquid gallium-indium-tin (Galinstan). The SEIRA sensor incorporates metagratings fabricated by two-photon laser writing. The simulation results indicate two order of magnitude enhancement in electric field intensity compared to the bare substrate. The experimental results show that the enhanced reflectance signal correlates well with the molecular vibrational modes in melamine and substrate temperature. Such SEIRA sensor incorporating the liquid Galinstan with three-dimensional metagratings, provides a novel approach to expanding hot-spot areas and improving the sensing capabilities in a fast, convenient, efficient, and lift-off-free manner.
