Abstract

Thermal model can be used to analyze and predict the thermal behavior of batteries for electrical vehicles. Based on recent research on thermal model of batteries, this paper provides a general method to develop thermal model for electrical vehicle batteries, and the determination of parameters through calculation or experiment. An equation based on a series of assumptions is established and solved. Parameters of the model are thus determined, and modeling completed. Incorporating present research on the thermal behavior of Ni/MH battery, suggestions are put forward to improve the thermal model. The application of microcalorimeter in experiments to measure heat generation rate precisely is proved to be effective in experiments. Result of calculation matched the experimented result very well.
