Abstract

The output characteristics of Er3+ doped ring cavity fiber laser were theoretically studied by solving the rate equations. Under stationary conditions analytical expressions on laser output power, threshold pump power and slope efficiency were presented. Influences on output characteristics by pump wavelength, pump power, Er3+ doped concentration, output coupling rate and laser wavelength were studied. The optimum fiber length of a ring cavity Er3+ doped fiber laser was derived. The LD -pumped Er3+ doped fiber laser was experimentally studied and the slope efficiency of more 10% was obtained.
