Abstract

The weak magnetic signals on a stretched screw thread connection were studied. A finite element method was adopted to calculate the stress distribution of the screw connection when loaded with uniaxial tensile stress, and the results were compared with the magnetic signals distributions of the screw. A conclusion that the reverse changes of magnetic signal attribute to the stress concentration zone and local plastic strain is obtained. The experimental criterion was proposed to determine the occurrence of plastic strain while stress increasing.
