Abstract

In the situation of non-line-of-light in the wireless communication, such as in the valley of a mountain area, chaff clouds can be used as scatterers to support the wireless communication on emergency or other special application requirements. A chaff-supported multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) scattering communication system is presented, and emphatically, the correlation characteristics of its channel matrix are investigated in this letter. The analytical expressions of the correlation coefficients among channel matrix elements are derived on the condition that the size of the chaff cloud is far less than communication distance. The average channel capacity is studied based on the derived correlation coefficients. Some conclusions are reached in this letter, which is of significance for the channel performance improvement of the chaff-supported communication system.
