Synthesis and thermal decomposition behavior of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one silver salt

Abstract

3-Nitro-1,2, 4-triazol-5-one silver salt was synthesized by the reaction of 3-nitro-1,2, 4-triazole-5-one (NTO) sodium salt with silver nitrate aqueous solution. Its thermal behavior was characterized by DSC and TG. The decomposition process of AgNTO · 2H2O was divided into four stages:dehyration process, fracture and decomposition of nitro-group,breaking of triazole ring and the primary formation of inorganic materials, the ultimate generation of Ag2CO3 and the maximum decomposition temperature was about 230°C. The ultimate decomposition product is Ag 2CO3.
