Abstract

An ultrahigh-bright white light source with narrow pulsed illuminating function is needed in the three-dimensional volumetric display utilizing multiple projectors and rotating screen. A new synchronous illumination optical system is presented. In this system, an ultrahigh-bright continuous white UHP lamp is used as light source, and multiple groups field lens and spherical reflectors are arranged around the axis of rotating screen alternatively. Two lens groups rotate with screen synchronously, and the beam of light from the lamp can pass through a field lens and illuminate the projector only when the screen faces a projector. The system provides illumination for all projectors of the 3-D volumetric display only with one lamp and ensures the synchronization between the rotating of screen and the projecting of the projectors accurately. The system is applied to the 3-D volumetric display successfully, and the true 3-D imagery is clear, bright and colorful. The principle and the structure of the system are discussed, and the illumination result is given and analyzed in detail.
