Abstract

Uniform CoFe2O4 hollow spheres with diameter of about 300 nm and a shell thickness of approximately 60 nm were synthesized by a easy vapor diffusion method in the presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), in combination with calcination at 550°C. The structure and morphology of as-prepared samples were characterized by electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). The hollow spheres exhibited a high saturation magnetization value of 66.4 emu/g and coercivity of 417 Oe at room temperature. A possible formation mechanism for the CoFe2O4 hollow spheres was proposed.
