Abstract

Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels were prepared by irradiating PVA aqueous solutions with 60Co γ-ray. Some aspects of microstructures of the PVA hydrogels were studied. Gel fractions(g) and swelling degree(Ds) of the hydrogels were measured. Charlesby's theory of polymer irradiation crosslinking and Flory's swelling equation of polymer gels were used to analyse experimental data. Different features of the water in the hydrogels were discussed according to DSC spectra. It was obtained that microstructures of the PVA hydrogels were related to absorbed dose.
