Abstract

Since battery was invented, the fixed series-parallel battery cell connection has not been changed over 300 years. However, due to the existence of cell difference, this fixed series-parallel cell connection brings up many application problems, such as energy conversion efficiency, SOC and SOH estimation, cell balance of battery charge and discharge, safety and reliability. With the inspiration of software-defined concept, in this paper, a software-defined battery system based on dynamic reconfigurable battery network will be proposed in detail. In software-defined battery system, the battery cell topology can be dynamically reconfigured in the real-time fashion based on the states of battery cells and the working condition of a battery system. Therefore, the aforementioned battery application problems will be solved under the technical framework of software-defined battery.
