Abstract

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a kind of noninvasive electrical-stimulation technology, which is widely used in neurosurgical and psychiatric treatments. Because of the fast decay of electrical fields in the brain tissue, which has good electrical conductivity, direct electrical-stimulation is not a good approach for TMS. Applying magnetic field on brain to generate induced electric field is reasonable and convenient. The design of magnetic field coils is the key technology for generating pulsed magnetic fields. In this paper, we used numerical simulation method to study the electric field distribution characteristics of circular coils and 8-shaped coils with different parameters, and tried to optimized the coil parameters to improve the focusing performance from the perspective of application. The calculation results show that the optimized coils, which are parallel-placed at a small distance, have better focusing characteristics.
