Shock initiation and global calibration of constitutive equation in reaction zone for a solid propellant

Abstract

The influence of pressure gauges to the reaction flow field is studied experimentally. Pressure histories during the shock initiation process for a modified double based propellant is measured with enhanced accuracy. A new reaction rate equation for modified double based propellant is proposed, and the coefficients in the equation are calibrated on the basis of a global calibration method. The shock initiation process is also simulated for the propellant, and the results show that the calculation agrees well with the measured histories.
