Abstract

We proposed a novel method for fabricating shape-controlled alginate-Poly-L-lysine (PLL) microcapsules to construct 3D cell structures based on electrodeposition. To achieve functional 3D cell structures, tissue-like cell density is important to biomimic and accurately recapitulate the native in vivo scenario. An alginate-PLL microcapsule was employed to construct the micro-scale structures (sphere, rod and cuboid). The shape of microcapsules can be modified by altering the parameters of electrodeposition to achieve miniaturized 3D microcapsules in which cells formed multi-cellular aggregate after cultivation.
