Abstract
A backward review on the image coding technique was made, in which, three classical image coding techniques (estimation coding transformation coding, and statistical coding) were described, the guiding thought and realization methods of the second-generation image coding techniques were introduced, the technical features of three international image coding standards were evaluated, and finally the constitution of two kinds of typical real-time image coding processing systems was analyzed also.
