Abstract

This paper deals with the electromagnetic analysis and comparison of the slotted and slotless high-speed permanent magnet (PM) brushless de (BLDC) motors adopting four different PM magnetizations (i.e., parallel magnetization, radial magnetization, Halbach array with parallel and radial magnetizations) through a two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM). The models and specifications of the two motors are established and tabulated firstly. Then, the electromagnetic performances include magnetic field distribution, no-load back-EMF, and electromagnetic torque are analyzed. Furtherly, the losses of the slotted and slotless motors with the four PM magnetizations are calculated under no-load and rated load operations. Finally, the two motors' efficiency with different PM magnetizations are performed and compared as well. The suitable scheme of this kind of high-speed PM BLDC motor is recommended.
