Abstract

According to the aviation VHF Data Link Mode 2 (VDLM2) protocol and based on its physical layer and link layer, the VDLM2 OPNET models were created. Based on the above models, the relationship between average MAC sublayer delay and aircraft number, and the relationship between average link layer delay and aircraft number were analyzed. The simulation results were compared with the theoretical results to validate the above models. Then the relationship between throughput and offered load, and the relationship between channel efficiency and offered load, were analyzed. The analysis results show that the offered load values in the range of (0.3, 0.7) result in the best performance of the VDLM2 communications system.
