Abstract

A fast virtual assembly-oriented collision detection method was proposed. The technique based on hierarchical partitioning was given, which synthetically used spatial partitioning and bounding volume hierarchy. In large-scale virtual assembly environment, using the technique, the number of primitive geometric elements pairs needed to be detected decreases rapidly. The reference model cache technique and the redundant polygons indexing technique based on spatial-temporal coherence of virtual assembly were presented, which could improve the efficiency and save the memory. The method has been testified to be efficient and fast.
