Abstract

With regard to the application of high pressure common rail injection system to a low compression ratios diesel rotary engine, special developments and experiments have been implemented. Firstly the high performance electronic control unite (ECU) that support all the tests was designed. Current developments focused on the applied fuel injection and ignition strategies, especially about the combustion configurations of injectors, ignition source, and combustion chamber. Currently the engine can run at 6000 r/min steadily and the power of single rotor is about 30 kW at 4000 r/min. Studies showed that the integrations of common rail injection system and the main and pilot duel injectors configuration assisted with glow plug ignition device and flexible ECU is a promising approach to improve the potential of low compression ratio diesel rotary engine.
