Abstract

A method was presented to suppress the waveform distortion in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). The amplified signal was reshaped and the waveform distortion was suppressed by compensating the internal birefringence of SOAs. It was found that the signal distortion and pattern effect were reduced. Input dynamic range of 5 dB was achieved by the measurement of power penalty.
