Abstract

Precisely Radar cross section (RCS) measurement in radar search mode is difficult because the beam scans a wide sector and the target is often illuminated off-boresight by the main lobe or sidelobes. In airborne phased-array radars, electronic steering adds systematic error, reducing the consistency of angular RCS across beam positions. This paper proposes a practical framework using multi-channel phase-comparison angle estimation to refine target direction, then compensating antenna-pattern loss and range-dependent path loss. Sampling-offset phase errors are also modeled and corrected. Single-scan simulations show the method recovers near-true RCS over a much wider scan region, enabling "search-and-measure"operation.
