Abstract

To guarantee the quality of structure design and part assemblability, a model of assembly semantics was studied. The description regulations were discussed to express the design dimension constraints and assembly geometric constraints in detail, writing rules were also presented. Based on this, an assembly semantics graph was set up. The attribute information of parts and the information of assembly semantics were described by the nodes and the directed edges in the graph respectively. The design process of product assembly based on assembly semantics was introduced. The reasoning process of the part design dimension constraints, assembly planning information and assembly operation sequences was studied in particular. A mechanism was presented to maintain the assembly semantics graph whenever the semantics was modified or changed. Finally, the results of an illustrative example showed that the model could effectively support collaborative assembly design.
