Abstract
A new method of synthesizing terephthalate-intercalated layered double hydroxides (LDHs) is reported. The key feature of this method is a reaction of freshly generated hydroxides and terephthalic acid under a hydrothermal condition. Compared with other methods, the terephthalate-intercalated LDHs synthesized using this method exhibit higher purity and higher crystallinity. XRD patterns and FT-IR spectra confirm the structure of intercalated LDHs. The effects of reaction temperature and time on the structure and morphology of the intercalated LDHs are discussed. TEM micrographs show the well-defined and uniform sized platelets of the samples.
