Abstract

Acrylic-styrene nanometer core-shell emulsion was prepared by pre-emulsified-half continual feeding technics with butyl acrylate and styrene as soft and hard monomer respectively, the shell was shaped by copolymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate. The mechanism was analyzed about preparing nanometer emulsion by this ordinary emulsion polymerization method; particle diameters of core-shell latexes were measured by the particle size distribution meter; core-shell structure could be observed in acrylic-styrene emulsion by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results reveal that particle diameters distribution is extremely narrow in 93.4 nm~95.6 nm; the average diameter of latexes is 94.5 nm; experiments show this core-shell structure is very stable.
