Abstract
This paper presents an experimental study of a vertical round jet under the environment of co-existing waves and currents in a physical wave-current flume. The jet centerline velocities and trajectories are measured to reveal the unique phenomenon of jet under the co-existing waves and currents. The results show that the jet keeps its original characteristics at the initial field and then quickly deflects at the near field. By comparison, it is found that the oscillation of wave effect introduces an additional momentum to both current and jet, resulting in a greater increasing jet width and a faster decay of centerline velocity than the jet in pure currents, and the jet trajectory more deflect towards the bottom with the existence of wave effect.
