Prediction and analysis on hydraulic retarder performance based on CFD technology

Abstract

Based on CFD technology and referring to the beam fluid theory, the numerical simulation of internal single-phase turbulence flow in the hydraulic retarder was performed by the mixing planes method with using the standard k-ε turbulence model and the SIMPLEC algorithm simultaneously. Through the numerical calculation and postprocessing, the internal characteristics of pressure and velocity distribution were analyzed. Comparing calculational braking torque results with the experimental results, it is indicated that predicting the performance of hydraulic retarder by the CFD simulation is accurate and practicable.
