Abstract

The bistatic high resolution range profile (BHRRP) of extended targets is analyzed and a precise method is proposed to estimate the length of the ballistic missile warheads. In this paper, the bistatic HRRP is obtained using the data calculated by a full-wave numerical method and some relationships are found between the bistatic HRRP and the monostatic HRRP. Although the monostatic HRRP has been well developed and widely used in target recognizing, it is demonstrated that the target length measured by the bistatic HRRP is more meaningful and accurate. In addition, a preliminary study on the location and the amplitude of bistatic scattering centers is presented by comparing the results with the monostatic cases. The simulation results of a cone shaped ballistic missile warhead are shown in the final part of the paper.
