Abstract

Space-based infrared system (SBIRS) for early warning usually uses point target detection. Obviously, effective detection and tracking of point target in cluttered background is not easy to realize. The method of solving this problem is one of the key research directions at present. The imaging principle of thermal imaging system with a front wire grid filtering was studied, and the influence of its diffraction spot on the point detection of SBIRS was analyzed. Then, the effect of wire grid filtering was simulated by Matlab and the result was similar to the true image. At last, an experiment of human eye detecting to point target and diffraction pattern by wire grid filtering which had been set the same total energy was carried out. The experiment shows its validity of improving point target detection and tracking. It is a new way to conduct further research and development of high-performance SBIRS.
