Plasticization of polyvinyl alcohol

Abstract

Different plasticizers were added to PVA, in order to improve its themoplasticity. TGA, DSC, XRD were used to test the performances of modified PVA. At the same time, mechanical properties and melt flow index of modified PVA also were tested. The results show that the melting point and crystallinity of plasticized PVA depresses, thermal decomposing temperature increases, and flexibility is improved. When the content of plasticizers is 30 phr (Glycerin/PEG=1:1), the effect is best. Then the thermoplastic processing of PVA is realized.
