Abstract

University students in Latin America have varying perceptions and interactions with artificial intelligence (AI) tools, particularly Chat GPT, within their educational environments. A quantitative cross-sectional survey involving 220 participants gathered insights through an online questionnaire addressing key themes such as accessibility, social attitudes, dependency on AI, privacy concerns, and the need for institutional guidelines. Analysis revealed that while students appreciate the potential of AI to enhance personalized learning experiences, significant concerns regarding the protection of their personal data and privacy were also evident. Findings underscore the critical need for universities to establish clear policies governing the ethical use of AI technologies in education. Understanding student perspectives enables educators and policymakers to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in academic settings, ensuring responsible and effective use of these tools.
