Abstract

A two-region-reactor model is presented to investigate the ozone synthesis in the surface discharge in oxygen, in which the production of oxygen atom and ozone is assumed to take place in two separated regions, i.e. the dissociation and the formation regions. The calculation results show that the ozone generation is determined by the generation of the oxygen atom which is only related to the discharge process in dissociation region, and by the transformation ratio of oxygen atoms into ozone molecules which is determined by the three body reactions in the formation region. The ozone generation of the surface discharge type ozonizer increases as the reduced field increasing at lower field but decreases almost proportionally at higher field (or the applied voltage). A good efficiency of ozone formation can be obtained at moderate field and lower temperature during the surface discharge.
