Abstract

R and D achievements of a field-running all-optical network were summarized. Optimized design scheme of optical add-drop multiplexing (OADM) and optical cross-connect (OXC) were also presented. Network control and management (NC and M) issues including the design and implementation were studied. Various network performance metrics were evaluated. The performance test results as well as the fact of good running of the multi-media services show that all-optical network becomes one kind of ideal transport technologies for metropolitan backbone networks.
