Abstract
Analysis of the advanced static var generator (ASVG) in a power system should not only include the ASVG's contribution to the power system, but also the effect of the system on the ASVG. This paper gives the equivalent circuit of an ASVG for system faulty conditions using the symmetry component method. The circuit parameters are then analyzed. The calculation results point out that, under the symmetrical modulation of the ASVG, the controller can regulate the positive sequence current and the DC component of the capacitor voltage on the DC side. The negative and zero sequence currents and the AC component of the capacitor voltage are determined by the main circuit parameters and the pattern of the ASVG transformer connection with the power system.
