Abstract

A projectile perforating concrete target is numerically simulated using LS-DYNA software. The calculation parameters of concrete material are determined by the experiments. Experiments are conducted for perforation of a projectile against concrete target by the use of on-board recording system. Projectiles with different initial velocities perforating concrete targets are studied. From the simulation results, relations of the crater diameter and scabbing diameter were obtained vs. initial velocity for fixed projectile and concrete target. The maximum deceleration value becomes larger and larger with the increase of initial velocity, but the shape of deceleration curves remains similar. The results can provide some reference for the experiments or design in perforating concrete target.
