Abstract

To estimate the influence of the flatness ratio on hydrodynamic performance, a group of torque converters with different widths were investigated by CFD simulation to improve the power diversity and reduce the mass based on the variable-width circulatory circle torque converter design method. The results showed that the torque ratio and efficiency curve are almost not affected by width ratio, whereas the torque capacity performance changes especially when the speed ratio is less than 0.6. Thus when the width is reduced, change of torque capacity should be given more attention.
