Numerical simulation of the process of water entry-then-explosion

Abstract

According to the characteristics of the process of water entry-then-explosion, a 2D calculation code was developed to couple different numerical methods and numerical technology in this paper. The Eulerian multi-material hydrodynamic method was used to simulate the behave of flow region, And the dynamic finite element method was used to calculate the response of projectile. Some numerical technology such as VOF (Volume-of-Fluid) method, Rigid body-Deformable body transformming technology were used to make the code work better. The code in this paper was used to simulate a problem of water entry-then-explosion. The numerical results indicated that the method has the ability of simulating the underwater flow field, the movement of free surface and the failure of projectile in the process of water entry-then-explosion.
