Numerical simulation of dynamic mechanical response of explosive charge during penetration

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The LS-DYNA dynamic analysis software is used to study the dynamic mechanical response of explosive charge in the process of warhead penetrating into semi-infinite concrete target. Pressure, plastic strain distribution, overload curve and relative displacement of explosive charge are obtained. The effects of different buffer materials on overload characteristics and maximum pressure of explosive charge are discussed. The results show that the head of explosive charge is subjected to the maximum compressive stress, while the tail of explosive charge is subjected to the maximum tensile stress. So the head and tail of explosive charge are easily to lead to failure or premature explosion. The teflon is the best buffer material for protecting the explosive charge in warhead and raising safety.
