Abstract

A simulation model of WD615.50 diesel engine with a common J90S turbocharger was established in GT-Power software, which was verified by comparing to the experimental data. Based on that, a simulation model of WD615.50 diesel engine with JK90S variable nozzle turbocharger was established. With the simulation computational model of variable nozzle turbocharger, the matching rule between JK90S variable nozzle turbocharger and WD615.50 diesel engine was investigated and analyzed. Results indicate that compared to the common turbocharger, the variable nozzle turbocharger can obtain much more intake air by turning down the variable nozzle under low-speed conditions coupled to a slight increase of engine power and torque and hence a little reduction of fuel consumption. Based on the numerical simulation, the change rule of the optimum opening of the turbocharger nozzle vane with the diesel engine speed and load can be determined.
