Abstract

The ignition and explosion of explosives on the condition of low-velocity impact bring out the concern on the safety operation towards the devices with explosive charges. If the conditions are known for the possible ignition of explosives, it is avoidable of the occurrence of accidents due to the precautions made in advance. One situation of low-velocity impact behavior takes place in the drop-weight test. The impact velocity is commonly less than 20 m/s. An initial analysis is made to the ignition and explosion of explosive during drop-weight test by the use of Lagrangian numerical software LEX2D. The histories of the stress and particle velocity are obtained by the calculation. On the basis of such information, the decomposition of the explosive particulate due to the friction is calculated. It is shown that the methodology of this analysis can be applicable to predict the possibility of the ignition and explosion of explosives in drop-weight test.
