Abstract

According to the result of an investigation into sympathetic explosion of detonators, it is concluded that the initiating ability of a detonator mainly consists of shock wave, explosive gases and metal fliers. When a detonator in a group of detonators explodes, to prevent herd explosion, It is necessary to know how to weaken the initiating ability of the detonator. We can make full use of detonators' leg-wires, EPS polyfoam, wood or sand. By using sympathetic explosion tests, the present paper discusses several kinds of approaches to realize no herd explosion. Then based on the lead plate test, the initiating ability of the unexplode detonators used in those experiments was testified. The effect of different media used in those sympathetic explosion tests is detected and the information may help us make an optimal choice.
