Abstract
A new method to detect the contour characteristic points of the palmprint was proposed based on the basic principles of the Harris corner detection. The Harris corner detection was improved according to the physiological features (the convex and concave areas) of the palmprint region where the contour characteristic points need to be detected. The algorithm was derived and discussed, and the experiments were performed. The results show that the contour characteristic points of the palmprint dectected by the proposed new method could orient conveniently the palmprint, providing a basis for automatic recognition of the palmprint.
