Multivariate EVT Based Completion Time Analysis and Optimization for Aerial Broadcasting Systems

Abstract

With the rapid development of large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, information broadcasting towards massive IoT terminals becomes increasingly important for efficiently distributing shared content within communication networks. Completion time of information broadcasting is a critical performance metric in such system, which is investigated in this paper for a dual-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) broadcasting system. First, the system model of the dual-UAV broadcast is established and the completion time of the broadcast is analyzed via the multivariate Extreme Value Theory (EVT). The expected completion time is then derived, based on which, a joint broadcast strategy selection and the UAV placement optimization algorithm is proposed. Simulation results across different Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) levels, user distributions, and task allocations confirm that the proposed method could approach the optimal broadcast completion time and adapts effectively to a variety of practical scenarios.
