Abstract

An analytical solution of the one-dimensional wave propagation is proposed to predict the steady-state SH wave behaviour in a one-dimensional random multi-layer medium with both periodic and non-periodic structures. A finite element model sandwiched by non-reflective boundary is also proposed and used to verify the analytical solution. Monte Carlo studies are conducted to demonstrate the influence of randomness of segment length on the wave propagation behaviour and the band structure. A macroscopic elastic model with structural damping is proposed to describe the homogenized steady-state wave behaviour in the multi-layer medium.
