Abstract
We propose a realistic modified virtual spatial smoothing (MVSS) algorithm for decorrelating the rectilinear signals (such as AM and BPSK signals), which does not require special assumption on signals' natural phases. The MVSS has the capability of fulfilling source decorrelation without array aperture reduction and effective element loss. The MVSS preprocessed subspace decomposition based direction of arrival (DOA) estimator is shown to outperform the traditional spatial smoothing counterpart.
