Abstract

An advanced static var generator (ASVG) is a new type of reactive power generator based on GTOs. This paper presented a transient model of ASVG using Switching function. A great difference between ASVGs with capacitors and ASVGs with voltage sources at DC side is pointed out. A new inverse nonlinear PI control law based on the model is proposed. Simulation and real testing results show that the model is correct and the control law has shorter response time than the classical PI control law.
