Abstract

Pedestrian street-crossing behavior is closely related to pedestrian safety and traffic performance. Pedestrians crossing preference is influenced by the type of crossing facilities as well as the accessibility and convenience. Based on the questionnaire and field survey, a discrete choice model for the preference of crossing location and route is proposed. Then the crossing preferences under various assumed traffic conditions are forecasted by sensitivity analysis. The model proposed in this paper is appropriate to describe pedestrian crossing preference, and also can be used for evaluating the accessibility and acceptability of crossing facilities. The results are helpful in arranging reasonable crossing facilities in urban traffic systems.
