Modeling on mass loss and nose blunting of CPHP

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Based on the penetration experiments of CPHP carried out by our group, it was found that the total mass loss, mass loss of shank and nose of CPHP were all proportional to its initial kinetic energy, and the proportional coefficients were linear fitted by the experimental data. Furthermore, the nose shape of CPHP after penetration was still ogival, just with a smaller CRH value, ie, the ratio of radius of curvature of projectile nose contour to the radius of projectile. Based on these observations and analyses, models for the mass loss of CPHP and nose blunting were respectively constructed, and the model predictions are consistent with the experimental results, respectively.
