Mode and Efficiency Analysis of T-Shaped Monopole Antenna in Foldable Smartphones

Abstract

The T-shaped monopole antennas in foldable smartphones are explored, focusing on their modes and efficiency performance in folded and unfolded states. The antenna structure is built on the metal frame. Two primary operating modes, namely the common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM), are investigated. The DM is excited and tuned to cover the B28, B5, and B8 frequency bands. Significant improvement in the radiation efficiency of the T-shaped antenna is observed in the unfolded state, due to reduced ground reflections and minimal interference from the secondary frame. The findings offer valuable insights for optimizing antenna design in foldable smartphones.
