Abstract

The surveillance of high-speed railway lines is pivotal for ensuring passenger and infrastructure security. Existing surveillance systems, however, suffer from camera unobservable spots and inadequate emergency response. This article introduces a novel leader-follower heterogeneous surveillance system (MSHSS) designed for the security of high-speed railway lines. The MSHSS synergizes large-scale, real-time monitoring via surveillance cameras (leader cameras) with the dynamic, multisensor capabilities of mobile patrol robots (follower cameras). This integration facilitates comprehensive scene surveillance and efficient risk management. The core innovation of this study is the deployment of MSHSS on operational high-speed railway lines, leveraging stationary cameras for global monitoring and a deep neural network, trained on a bespoke dataset, for intrusion detection. Upon detection, patrol robots are dispatched through a seamless target handover mechanism for immediate intervention. The article details the MSHSS architecture, encompassing the surveillance and patrol systems, cloud and local servers, and user interface. Field deployment and experimental validation on a live railway line confirm MSHSS's efficacy in overcoming the limitations of traditional surveillance methods, thereby enhancing security measures.
